► A simple homogeneous precipitation process was conducted at a relatively low temperature.► Zn0.90Fe0.10O and Zn0.90Fe0.08Co0.02O products were of nanosize. ► Room temperature ferromagnetism was found in Zn0.90Fe0.10O and Zn0.90Fe0.08Co0.02O nanoparticles.► Relatively high coercivity of 762Oe (300K) that has never been reported before was obtained in Zn0.90Fe0.08Co0.02O nanostructures.

► Synthesis of single phase bismuth oxide (Bi2O3) without applying any heat treatment. ► Removal of environmental pollutants using phase pure Bi2O3through photocatalyst reaction. ► Crystallite size plays a vital role in deciding the photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange using Bi2O3as catalyst.
► Composite membrane of Zr0.84Y0.16O1.92(YSZ)–La0.8Sr0.2Cr0.5Fe0.5O3−δ(LSCF) was investigated under CO2/CO gradient at 800–900°C. ► The membrane shows excellent stability and acceptable oxygen permeability under CO2/CO gradient. ► The activity energy for oxygen permeation decreased with membrane thickness. ► YSZ–LSCF composite membrane is potential in application for the system relative with CO2and CO.
