► We propose a novel composite nanostructure with inner P(VDF-TrFE) copolymers for high insulating property and outer BFO nanotubes for mechanical supporting. ► An interesting phenomenon is that there are two parallel rows of P(VDF-TrFE) nanoislands on the internal surface of BFO nanotubes. ► The leakage current densityJof BFO/P(VDF-TrFE) composite nanostructures is four orders of magnitude lower than that of BFO under the ±8MV/m. The results show that the composite nanotubes enhanced the electrical properties with lower leakage current density.
